Enough Said

Enough said. It’s an interesting phrase. But what does it mean? Perhaps it can be more accurately described as a “modern day” version of the mid-century term, “period” or “end of story.”

I had a friend in college, who at the end of any group discussion would close with these words and then abruptly exit the room. The crowd would disperse and sometimes those left standing, would break off into smaller groups to continue their discussions, because they hadn’t reached their own “enough said” moments.

Now fast forward 30+ years to this day and you realize why those final words still resound inside my head. It was a little over a year ago when we lost him. Our friend, Buck was on his own path, and he knew what he wanted to do and where he was going. He just didn’t know how it was going to happen. He saw the endpoint in a dream and he told us about it one day. We just didn’t believe him. It was too far-fetched! Become a famous actor and meet the Pope! We laughed out loud, when he told us. “Enough said,” he told us again and walked out. He was going to have the last word.

He left us in his dust in that tiny Tinsley dorm room at RU, and he went on to become the man he envisioned himself to be one day. James Joseph Gandolfini may you rest in peace, my dear.

Enough said.
